Training
for Your Horse
Whether your horse
needs a week of tweaking and fine tuning, several
weeks or months of schooling, Caroline Rider
and her team can help - every step of the way.
Our teaching style employs the philosophies,
training techniques, and riding elements of
classical dressage. Balance, harmony, suppleness,
rhythm, combined with clear, mindful and consistent
communication (through aids) become the dialogue
between horse and rider. The development of
communication is foremost as it establishes
a mutual understanding and cooperation between
both. This cooperation allows both rider and
horse to work confidently together in balance,
which in turn promotes harmony. Rider Horsemanship
focuses on finesse, not force, and the results
are achieved more smoothly and easily.
Our training approach
is designed to work with your horse’s specific
nature and temperament. We believe in developing,
and nurturing, a positive learning frame of
mind at all times, which enables us to create
a path of least resistance when working and
teaching your horse. Because horses are creatures
of habit (form patterns in 30 days), we believe
a minimum 90 day training period
works best when creating a solid ground and
riding foundation with your horse. Of course
your horse’s progression through this training
period will depend upon his/her unique temperament
and attitude as well as your desired horsemanship
goals.
The following
approach, and exercises, will be followed and
employed when working/
handling your horse:
- The development, and
maintenance of connection (mental engagement),
join up (acceptance and trust) and partnership
throughout all activities and handling.
- Identifying and addressing
of any negative behaviorial issues, such as;
fear, anxiety, dullness, opposition, trust,
aggression, etc.
- Application of Tao of
Horsemanship DVD series: liberty work, 9 online
exercises “Riding as One” approach.
- Address specific needs
and goals of owner so that we are able to
create a customized training approach that
will meet the needs of both horse and owner.
For continued success
and development, it is recommended that the
owner/handler continue the horse’s program once
returned home for at least one year.
